Seasonal Vent Maintenance: Preparing for Spring and Summer Challenges

Spring is a practical time to look at the outside end of a dryer vent. Winter weather, wind, yard debris, and animal activity can leave the exterior hood obstructed even when everything behind the dryer looks normal. With the dryer running, the damper should be able to open and exhaust air should be coming out. If the flap is stuck, lint is packed around the outlet, or a bird or other animal has nested there, that obstruction needs to be dealt with before it becomes a bigger airflow problem. A screen should not be added over the dryer exhaust because it can collect lint and create another restriction.

Summer often brings a different kind of load: more towels, sports clothes, travel laundry, bedding, and repeated cycles in busy households. More dryer use means more lint moving through the exhaust system, so a change in drying time, a vent warning, or weaker outside airflow is worth noticing. The season itself is not a reason to sell every homeowner a cleaning. A short, clear vent may be fine, while a long run with several turns or an exterior hood exposed to nesting and debris may need attention sooner. Use the seasonal check to find an actual condition, then clean or repair only what needs it.

If a spring or summer check turns up weak airflow, a blocked exterior hood, or signs of lint buildup, Ventworks serves Wilmington, Ohio plus Clinton, Highland, Fayette, Greene and Warren Counties. We can help determine whether the dryer vent needs cleaning, repair, or simply a cleared termination.
