Ventworks Duct and Vent Cleaning

Dryer Vent Cleaning Resources

The Comprehensive Vent Care Checklist: Ensuring Optimal Performance Year-Round

A useful dryer vent maintenance checklist starts with the parts you can safely observe. Clean the lint filter every load. Notice whether the dryer suddenly needs longer cycles, feels hotter than normal, or displays a check-vent or airflow warning. Make sure the dryer has not been pushed back hard enough to crush or kink the transition duct. Then go outside while the dryer is running and see whether the exhaust hood opens and air is actually moving. Lint packed around the outlet, a stuck flap, nesting, or a screen collecting debris can restrict the system even when the hose behind the machine looks clear.

The second half of the checklist is about knowing when the visible checks are not enough. Long runs, multiple bends, concealed sections, loose joints, and years of unknown maintenance can justify a closer look at the full exhaust path. Periodic cleaning makes sense when lint and debris are actually accumulating, but cleaning is not the answer for every item on the list. A crushed transition or disconnected duct needs repair. A clear, intact vent followed by the same slow-drying problem points back toward the appliance, load size, or washer extraction. The checklist works best when it helps you choose the right next step instead of turning maintenance into the same service every time.
